2008 Goal Update
So I'm half way through the year and I'm happy to say that I'm still working towards accomplishing my goal for 2008 (a healthier me). In the last 5 1/2 months, I've lost 24 pounds thanks to Weight Watchers and the support of the wiki (see earlier post if you haven't heard about the wiki yet).
I've decided it's time to take things up a notch. I'm still trying to figure out what works best for my body, make healthier choices (it's not all about the 1 pt. snacks), and become more fit so I've enlisted some help.
1) Nutritionist - she's a referral from a friend who has seen amazing results. He didn't need to lose any weight, but he works a strenuous job and just wanted to feel better and he lost weight in the process. On Tuesday, I began a 21-day purification program. Basically for the next 21 days (now 19) I'll have two protein shakes and all the fruits & veggies I want. I can add protein back in on day 11. It was very interesting as she tested my body fat (via electric current) and was able to tell me how much fat, muscle, and water I had. I'm actually carrying around 12 pounds of unnecessary fluids thanks to my diet of processed foods, sodium, high sugar, etc. It was an eye-opening experience. So far I'm surviving the purification program. I'm a little tired, but it's not as hard as I thought it would be.
Basically the point of the purification program is to rid your body of the toxins that we're exposed to on a regular basis, help get rid of the unnecessary fluids, and by ridding yourself of the toxins and focusing on whole, healthy food for 21 days it can help you overcome your cravings (i.e. my sweet tooth)
This weekend will be the real test as I'm spending the weekend at the lake with a few friends!
2) Personal trainer - I like how I feel when I exercise, but I really don't like to exercise so I need some help! So I've enlisted Dustie to whip me into shape. She may not be a "professional" yet, but she will be in no time and if you've seen her body transformation then you know the girl knows what she's doing!
I've got pics and details from last weekend's birthday celebration to post, but that will be sometime this weekend! So keep your eye out for those!
