Boulder Bound!
We got up bright and early (5am) to make sure we arrived at the airport in plenty of time for our 8:50am flight to Denver.
We are spending Christmas with Alex, Dana & Aidan. I was so excited to meet the little guy that the flight seemed to last forever. I talked to Alex once we landed and even though it was Sunday they were taking Aidan to the doctor for a follow up appointment. They had taken him in on Friday and with the holidays the doctor wanted to see him again so he scheduled the appointment for Sunday. His appointment was about the time we landed so I told Alex we'd call once we finally got on the road.
HG's step-dad (Stan) picked us up from the airport and took us back to their house so we could borrow Heather's car (HG's sister). Karen (HG's mom) & Heather were in Amarillo for Christmas. We chatted with Stan for a bit and saw the Christmas present he got for Karen. He surprised her and had granite countertops installed in the kitchen. They look great. The installers arrived about 30 minutes after Stan dropped Karen & Heather off at the airport on Saturday.
So by the time we visit, load up Heather's car, and call Alex to let him know we're on the way our whole trip has changed. . .Aidan was admitted to the hospital. It's so early in the game that we don't really know what's wrong or how long he'll have to stay. It doesn't take too long for us to get to Boulder and they aren't allowing visitors yet at the hospital so we go to Alex & Dana's. Dana's mom (Frankie) and her brother (Michael) are also in town so we thought we'd stop in and say hi and then find somewhere to eat. . .we were starving!!!
We meet up with Frankie & Michael and decide to have lunch at Chili's. After lunch we're FINALLY able to go to the hospital and visit Aidan. All I want to do is hold him!!!
The hospital is great! Most NICUs house all the babies in one place, but this hospital had a private room for each baby with a room attached for the parents so we had plenty of space to visit and Alex & Dana are able to stay with Aidan.
He's so cute, but so tiny!!! At this point, they're still not sure what's wrong with him and they are administering all kinds of test. Poor kid was being poked and prodded and he didn't like it! The whole reason they even went to the doctor on Friday is because of a sore on his head. When he was born they used the suction cup on his head to help pull him out and it ended up leaving an open wound. They kept it bandaged and laden with ointment, but then on Thursday it started looking bad and by Friday it looked much worse so they took him to the doctor. He was put on antibiotics and told to come back on Sunday for a check-up. So here we are. . .waiting to find out what's wrong.
I finally got to hold him and he's just precious!!!! According to Alex, Dana, & Frankie he has Dana's nose and Alex's mouth & chin and I have to say that I agree. We only spent a few hours at the hospital and then we were off to Brad & Noelia's for a get-together with HG's friends from high school.
On our way to Brad's we got the call that they think he has viral meningitis which of course sounds extremely scary! I was so worried about the little guy, but also worried that I might spread his germs to the kids we were about to visit, but we checked with the nurse and they suggested that I wash my hands really well (at this point I had already done that 4 or 5 times) and change my clothes (again had already done that) just to be on the safe side.
We spent the evening at Brad & Noelia's and had a great time! We had quite the gathering with Brad, Noelia, their 3 kids (Austin, Colton, and Lauren), BJ, Kelly, Annabelle (we finally got to meet her), Brian, Penny, Clara, and their new baby Nora. Noelia stuffed us with yummy food, the kids kept us entertained, and we just hung out until about 11. I was so tired since we had gotten up so early that I was definitely ready to crawl into bed, but didn't want to miss out on the fun either!
